Excess fat is removed from your chin, making your face look thinner and more defined. A chin that is holding onto unwanted fat deposits creates a less flattering profile, a weaker jawline and folds that are frustrating to the individual who is seeking a smoother, more contoured appearance. Dr. Cheryl Karcher can safely and effectively reduce a double chin significantly in just one treatment. With minimal downtime, her method provides a safe and effective result for both men and women alike, right here in our Union Square practice.
Chin liposuction is performed at our office, as an outpatient surgical procedure. Tumescent liposuction of the chin is performed by locally numbing the area with a blunt-tipped cannula. The local anesthesia contains lidocaine to numb the area and a small amount of epinephrine to constrict the blood vessels, so there is no bleeding. The tumescent liposuction technique is much gentler than traditional liposuction methods and causes far less bruising in most cases.
The chin contour is improved in two ways: volume reduction and tissue tightening. After the fat has been removed, a few days of compression (pressure) dressings, allows the skin to ‘shrink’ and redrape to the new contour of the chin.
We keep our patients comfortable with local anesthesia, general anesthesia is not needed. We also offer Nitronox to help relax our patients while the procedure is being performed. You will be sent home with Tylenol Extra Strength to help with the minimal discomfort after.
You should see a significant improvement immediately. Once the swelling and bruising are gone, the results will be more evident.
The healing process that occurs over the next six months following chin liposuction, is skin tightening. This tightening can smooth the chin.
Final tightening may take up to 6 months and will continue to improve over the next year. We will closely follow your progress to ensure a smooth recovery.
Chin liposuction with Dr. Karcher may take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.
Patients enjoy the benefits of chin liposuction for many years. Chin Liposuction is permanent and you should only need it once.
Great candidates for Chin Liposuction are people that have:
Patients should avoid smoking, eat a healthy diet, and engage in regular exercise prior to their procedure. These efforts will help promote healing. Those who are taking blood pressure medications should have their hypertension under control before undergoing liposuction. Blood thinners, such as Ibuprofen, Advil, aspirin, and Aleve should be avoided for 10 days prior to surgery.
Before undergoing chin liposuction, patients should meet with Dr. Karcher first for a consultation. At this consultation, an examination of the patient's chin, an assessment of the patient's health, and a discussion of what the patient can expect from their individual procedure will be thoroughly reviewed and discussed. Results will vary from patient to patient and depend largely upon the chin’s appearance prior to treatment.
